The Georgian Water and Powers, the company supplying Georgia’s capital Tbilisi with drinking water, on Monday announced it would begin to gradually restore 24-hour water service to its subscribers.

This follows a week of scheduled water supply interruptions due to damage to the central main water supply pipeline.

“After completing the diagnosis of the main pipe, the relevant sections of the pipeline were freed from the ground cover, replacement works of the damaged sections were carried out, and the examination of the quality of welding of each new connection point was conducted,” the company said..

More than 50,000 families in Tbilisi have been receiving water on a scheduled basis over the past week due to the damage near the village of Tsitsamuri. The pipeline, which was damaged on June 16, was essential for supplying water to the Vake-Saburtalo and Gldani districts in Tbilisi.
