Man arrested in Tbilisi on charges of large-scale drug trafficking

Officers of the Tbilisi Police Department under Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs have arrested a man on charges of illegal acquisition, possession, and facilitation of the sale of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances in large and especially large quantities.
The Ministry on Monday said the suspect, identified as B.A., born in 1991, was detained during a police operation in the Ponichala settlement. A search of the suspect’s person and residence led to the seizure of a particularly large quantity of drugs: 297 packages of narcotic substances prepared for distribution, as well as 491 tablets of a psychotropic substance, which were taken as material evidence.
The investigation is being conducted under Articles 260, 260¹ (quart) and 261 of the Criminal Code of Georgia. The charges carry a penalty of up to 20 years’ imprisonment or life imprisonment.
