Public demonstrations are due to take place today in Tbilisi and Batumi in support of children living with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Organisers said the rallies will begin at 17:00 local time. In Tbilisi, protesters are expected to gather outside the government office, while in Batumi the demonstration will be held near the Constitutional Court.

Parents of affected children are calling on the state to facilitate access to medication, fund medical testing and provide treatment programmes.

Duchenne muscular dystrophy is a severe inherited condition that causes progressive muscle weakness from early childhood. Over time, it affects mobility, breathing and heart function, and can lead to life-threatening complications.
