Police in Georgia have arrested seven people at different times on charges including the illegal purchase and possession of especially large quantities of drugs and psychotropic substances, facilitating drug sales and illegally cultivating plants containing narcotic substances, the Interior Ministry said on Wednesday.
The suspects include both Georgian and foreign nationals.
Officers searched the suspects, their homes and residential plots and seized especially large quantities of drugs and psychotropic substances from various locations, the ministry press office said.
The substances seized included methadone, buprenorphine, 201 cannabis plants, 143 packages of tetrahydrocannabinol, dried marijuana, baclofen and gabapentin.
Police also seized materials allegedly used for packaging drugs.
The offenses carry penalties of up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
