Police in Georgia have arrested six people on charges linked to the illegal purchase, possession and facilitation of the sale of especially large quantities of drugs, the Interior Ministry has said.
The arrests were carried out at different times by officers from the Patrol Police Department of Georgia, as well as the Tbilisi, Samtskhe-Javakheti and Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti police departments.
The ministry on Thursday said those detained include previously convicted individuals and foreign nationals.
During searches of the suspects and their homes, police seized what investigators described as especially large quantities of drugs prepared for sale, including dried marijuana, cocaine and methadone.
Officers also recovered packaging materials allegedly used for drug distribution, along with cash believed to have been obtained through narcotics sales.
A pistol and ammunition were additionally seized during a search of one suspect’s residence.
If convicted, the suspects could face prison sentences of up to 20 years or life imprisonment.
