Officers from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia have arrested 12 people on suspicion of illegal acquisition and possession of firearms and ammunition, following a series of coordinated operations across the capital and regional areas.

The arrests were carried out as part of ongoing efforts to combat organised crime in Georgia, the MIA press office said on Tuesday.

Police said both investigative and preventive measures had been conducted in recent weeks.

Law enforcement officials reported that searches of suspects’ private and residential properties, vehicles, and auxiliary storage spaces led to the seizure of multiple items of evidence. These included firearms, automatic weapons, a hand grenade, magazines, and ammunition.
