Seven arrested in Tbilisi, regions for illegal firearms, ammunition possession

Georgian police have seized illegal firearms and ammunition during operations carried out in the capital city of Tbilisi and several regions, detaining seven individuals, the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced on Sunday.

The Ministry said officers from the Tbilisi Police Department, Central Criminal Police, Patrol Police, and police units in Adjara, Imereti, and Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti conducted a series of investigative and operational measures that led to the arrests.

During searches of the suspects’ homes, vehicles, and personal belongings, law enforcement officers confiscated various firearms – including pistols and revolvers – as well as a hand grenade, live rounds, and magazines, the body added.

The crime is punishable by up to seven years of imprisonment.
