Investigators said the drugs were discovered in a specially constructed hiding place inside the suspect’s residence

Police in Tbilisi have seized 35 kilograms of marijuana with an estimated value of around ₾3 million, the Interior Ministry has announced.

According to officials, officers from the Tbilisi Police Department detained a 31-year-old Iranian citizen, identified only as I.I., on suspicion of the illegal purchase, possession and facilitation of the sale of a particularly large quantity of narcotics.

Investigators said the drugs were discovered in a specially constructed hiding place inside the suspect’s residence, along with packaging materials allegedly used to prepare the marijuana for distribution. In total, 146 packages of the drug were seized.

The offences are punishable by up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment under Articles 260 and 260¹ of Georgia’s Criminal Code.
