Eleven arrested in Georgian capital on drug charges, large quantities of narcotics seized

Eleven individuals have been arrested in the Georgian capital city of Tbilisi on charges related to drug trafficking and possession of large quantities of narcotics, the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced on Saturday.
The body added the detainees were accused of purchasing, storing and facilitating the distribution of various types of narcotic and psychotropic substances, including marijuana. Among those arrested are Georgian citizens born between 1981 and 2006, as well as several foreign nationals.
During searches of the suspects’ homes, vehicles and personal belongings, as well as during investigative experiments, police seized large quantities of illegal drugs intended for sale, including buprenorphine, alpha-PVP, dried marijuana, cocaine, methadone, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), pregabalin, MDMA and morphine.
Law enforcement officers also confiscated materials used for drug packaging, such as adhesive tape, plastic bags and electronic scales.
The offences carry penalties of up to 20 years in prison.
