Officers of the Tbilisi Police Department under Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs have arrested a Russian citizen, born in 1980, on charges of illegal acquisition, possession and facilitation of the sale of a particularly large quantity of narcotic drugs, as well as the illegal cultivation of narcotic plants.

According to the Interior Ministry, the investigation established that the suspect, identified as D.Sh., had set up a special greenhouse in his temporary residence, where he was illegally cultivating a particularly large quantity of plants containing narcotic substances.

During a search of the premises, law enforcement officers seized a particularly large amount of dried marijuana and cannabis plants as evidence. Police also confiscated materials used for the cultivation and packaging of narcotic substances.

The investigation is being conducted under Articles 260, 260¹ and 265¹ of Georgia’s Criminal Code, offences that carry penalties of up to 20 years’ imprisonment or life sentence, the ministry said.
