Thea Tsulukiani, the Vice Speaker of Georgia’s Parliament and chair of the temporary investigation commission probing alleged crimes under the previous United National Movement government, on Wednesday expressed appreciation for outgoing Vakhrang Gomelauri’s work, calling him the best Minister of Internal Affairs since the 1990s.

“Having worked with him for more than a year, I believe that from the 90s to the present day, he was the best Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia,” she said. She praised his professionalism, dignity, and leadership, crediting him with creating conditions of peace and stability for the country, state institutions, and political authorities.

Tsulukiani acknowledged Gomelauri’s decision to resign earlier during the day as a “personal choice” and expressed respect for his will.

Tsulukiani also thanked the entire Ministry of Internal Affairs system, including every police officer and employee, for their “dedicated service.” “It is our duty to thank and wish success to the entire great system that he led for many years,” she said.
