The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs on Saturday said officers from the Adjara division of the Central Criminal Police detained a 1992-born suspect in the Terjola municipality on suspicion of illegally purchasing, possessing and facilitating the sale of a particularly large quantity of drugs.

Law enforcement officials said a search of the suspect and locations identified during an investigative experiment led to the seizure of a large amount of methadone intended for distribution. Materials used for packaging drugs were also recovered during a search of the suspect’s temporary residence.

The investigation is being conducted under aggravated provisions of the criminal code, which carry a penalty of up to 20 years or life imprisonment.
