Police in western Georgia have arrested a Ukrainian national on charges related to the illegal purchase, possession and facilitation of the sale of a particularly large quantity of narcotics, the Interior Ministry has said.

According to the ministry, officers from the Terjola district division of the Imereti Police Department detained the suspect, identified as I.K., born in 1998.

During a search of the suspect’s temporary residence, police seized a particularly large quantity of the drug methadone, which authorities said had been prepared for sale. Law enforcement officers also confiscated materials used for packaging narcotic substances.

The investigation is being conducted under Articles 260 and 260¹ of Georgia’s Criminal Code, which carry penalties of up to 20 years’ imprisonment or life in prison if the charges are upheld.
