The text of the draft resolution in support of Ukraine, which was proposed by the ruling Georgian Dream party is known. However, the parliamentary opposition refuses to join it despite making statements earlier today that an agreement on the content was reached.

Now the opposition says that the ruling party deleted the section which indicated Russia’s role and aggression in the current tension.

The ruling party MP Mamuka Mdinaradze claims that the text responds to the country’s interests and is not provocative.

The draft resolution is entitled “on possible military escalation in Ukraine”.

The draft resolution expressed deep concerns over the possible military escalation in Ukraine and condemns any intention that may be directed against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of a sovereign state, which poses a new threat not only to Ukraine but also to regional peace and security.

The document says that membership of NATO is a sovereign right of the state and that any attempt to restrict this right by military-political means is categorically unacceptable.

The draft resolution states that the prevention of war in Ukraine should be a major concern of the international community and expressed solidarity with the friendly Ukrainian people, who could be severely harmed by any possible military escalation.

“In view of all the above, the Parliament of Georgia calls on the Government of Georgia, through the use of diplomatic instruments and in close coordination with strategic partners, to continue its contribution to the prevention of war in Ukraine.”
