Unity Party member urges Constitutional Court to protect Georgia’s European future

The Unity party member Tamar Kordzaia has called on Georgia’s Constitutional Court to play a decisive role in determining the country’s future. In a statement made on Monday, Kordzaia emphasized that the court now has the opportunity to decide whether Georgia will move toward European prosperity or remain in isolation and poverty.

She attributed the suspension of negotiations between Georgia and the European Union to the controversial law on Foreign influence, labeled by the opposition and third sector as “Russian law.” She also stressed that the law has been recognized as a “red line” by many and is the primary reason for the stalled talks with the foreign partners.

“By filing the lawsuits against this law we have given the Constitutional Court the chance to decide if Georgians will find prosperity in Europe or be left in isolation and poverty,” Kordzaia stated.

She highlighted that when the European Commission evaluates the situation, it will judge Georgia as a whole rather than blaming specific decision-makers like the Parliament or the Prime Minister.

Kordzaia urged the Constitutional Court to seize this unique opportunity to become a symbol of Georgia’s salvation and alignment with Europe.

Georgia’s Constitutional Court is reviewing four lawsuits against the law on Foreign Influence Transparency, which is labeled as a “Russian law” by domestic actors, allegedly impeding the country’s European integration. The law obliges local NGOs and media organizations to register as pursuants of foreign influence if they receive more than 20 percent of their incomes from abroad.
