World champion wrestler Zurab Datunashvili was arrested near Freedom Square in Tbilisi on Wednesday late evening. Datunashvili, currently a representative of the Coalition for Change, was attending a meeting of opposition parties at the Courtyard Marriott hotel in Tbilisi.

Following the conclusion of the meeting between four opposition parties, opposition members were confronted outside the venue by unidentified individuals. Witnesses at the scene reported a physical altercation taking place, with some claiming that government-aligned “titushki” (hired provocateurs) were deployed to provoke the opposition.

The altercation led to the arrest of Zurab Datunashvili by the police. There are also reports suggesting that Aleko Elisashvili, a well-known Georgian political figure, was arrested at the scene.
