For the first time in history, the Baltic states have completely abandoned electricity from Russia. They made such a decision during the tests to exit the BRELL energy ring (Belarus, Russia, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania).
This was reported by Kommersant.
Latvia, without explanation, stopped commercial imports from Russia for two days (April 8 and 11). At this time, Belarus cut off power lines with Lithuania.
The Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation reported that the disconnection of the transmission line between Belarus and Lithuania did not affect the operation of the Russian energy system.
These days in Russia, due to the cessation of export supplies, the demand and prices for electricity fell, in the Baltic states, on the contrary, prices increased.
In 2019, the authorities of the Baltic countries decided to abandon the supply of electricity from Russia and Belarus and connect to the EU networks by 2025.
