President of the European Council Charles Michel promises to make important decisions regarding the Russian Federation after his visit to Ukraine.

According to UNIAN, he said this during a joint press conference with the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky in Kiev.

Michel noted that he was amazed at the situation in Donbass after a trip to eastern Ukraine, and in particular amazed at the government's efforts to improve the daily life of Ukrainian citizens with the support of international partners.

“Last December, we adopted a new sanctions regime based on the important topic of human rights. And last week on Monday we decided for the first time to apply sanctions in connection with the Navalny case. This means that we are absolutely committed and united in Europe to ensure that to be very tough, very decisive, in order to defend our values and protect our interests," – the President of the European Council stressed.

He noted that on March 25-26, at the level of all heads of state and government of the EU member states, a strategic discussion on Russia will take place with the aim of "assessing the situation and taking clear steps in accordance with common interests."

“We want to play a strong role for more stability and security and for more predictability,” Michel said.

In this regard, as the President of the European Council explained, it was important for him, during his visit to Ukraine, to meet with Zelensky and his team in order to establish cooperation, common understanding and operate with the same information. "This is (necessary) in order to make certain important decisions. We are in the same boat. We share common values and interests," Michel said.
