"The timely response of our team, the professionalism of Georgian doctors and epidemiologists and the outstanding civil responsibility of our citizens have enabled us to deal with the virus in the spring, at the beginning of the pandemic, and during the second wave", – said the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Gharibashvili.
According to the head of government, although the current situation gives grounds for optimism, the struggle is still ongoing and it is inadmissible to relax.
"One year has passed since the first case of a new coronavirus was detected in Georgia. This is a year, the whole world is living in a completely different, difficult mode. The countries with the strongest economies in the world have been hit hardest. Georgia was no exception. The pandemic affected everyone and everything.
For years we have been in this war with an invisible enemy. The timely response of our team, the professionalism of Georgian doctors and epidemiologists and the outstanding civil responsibility of our citizens enabled us to deal with the virus both in the spring, at the beginning of the pandemic, and during the second wave. There were very serious challenges, in a short time we needed to switch to pandemic management mode and it must be said that we responded to these challenges effectively.
It is true that vaccine shortages around the world have made it difficult for our population to get vaccinated, but trust me, our government, each agency is doing its best to get the country getting the first doses as soon as possible.
Although the current situation really gives grounds for optimism and we have eased most of the regulations, the struggle is still going on. We are learning to coexist with the virus. I believe that our society understands well that it is inadmissible to distract attention and ignore the imposed recommendations.
"I am confident that with joint efforts we will be able to finally overcome this challenge," – said the Prime Minister.
