The World Health Organization (WHO) has named the cause of the new coronavirus outbreak in India. This was facilitated by a "perfect storm" of mass gatherings, low vaccination rates, and an increased spread of more infectious strains of the virus.
This was stated by WHO spokesman Tariq Yasharevich, reports The Guardian.
The WHO did not claim that the more contagious variant of the virus is the only cause of the outbreak of COVID-19 in India.
"The extent to which these viral changes are responsible for the dramatic increase in cases in the country remains unclear as there are other factors, such as recent large gatherings, that may have contributed to the growth," Yasharevich said.
The WHO also noted that unnecessary pressure was exerted on the Indian health system by people who were sent to hospitals in panic, despite the fact that they could be treated at home.
It is noted that the circulation of a variant of the B1617 virus with two mutations was detected in India. It is considered to be more contagious, according to preliminary scientific evidence and statements by doctors who have come across this strain of the virus.
