Opposition leader: protest of Georgian people, international non-recognition of Parliament are “key”

Tina Bokuchava, the leader of Unity – National Movement, on Monday emphasized the significance of the Georgian people’s protest and sustained efforts on the international stage to uphold the policy of non-recognition of the country’s new Parliament following last month’s “falsified elections”.

“The most important thing is our protest, the protest of the Georgian people. At the same time, it is very important to work tirelessly on the international arena to maintain the policy of non-recognition,” Bokuchava said amid the inaugural session of the 11th convocation Parliament.

She criticized the ongoing formation of the “self-proclaimed parliament”, highlighting its lack of legitimacy both domestically and internationally.

“The civilized world does not recognize the elections hijacked by the Russian special operation and their results. Accordingly, the parliament being formed does not reflect the will of Georgian society in any way and lacks both national and international legitimacy. Today, the so-called self-proclaimed parliament gathered, but it accomplishes nothing as the situation remains unchanged. Neither the president, political parties, nor anyone else recognizes the legitimacy of these elections,” Bokuchava said.
