Three arrested in alleged patient diversion scheme for Evex clinics

The Georgian State Security Service on Friday said it had apprehended three former employees of an emergency medical center on charges related to an alleged bribery scheme involving Vian clinics, previously known as Evex.

According to official statements, the investigation uncovered evidence suggesting that the individuals in question accepted a sizable bribe totaling 532,126 GEL in exchange for directing patients to the aforementioned clinics. This diversion of patients, it is alleged, bypassed the nearest medical facilities in favor of those affiliated with the Vian network.

The suspects include a former Deputy Head of the Hospitalization Shift at the Emergency Situations Coordination and Emergency Assistance Center, as well as two former hospitalization managers from the same facility. It is claimed that they colluded with representatives of Vian clinics over a period spanning from January 1, 2020, to July 31, 2023.

During this time frame, it is alleged that the clinic employees received bonuses amounting to 225,781 GEL for their role in attracting patients. The charges are being pursued under two sections of the Criminal Code, implying accepting bribes and offering bribes.
