Tina Bokuchava, chair of the opposition United National Movement, has accused the Georgian Government of leaving the country sidelined during major geopolitical changes in the South Caucasus, warning that Georgia is missing historic opportunities.
Bokuchava said the wider region is undergoing significant political realignments while Georgia is “out of focus” internationally.
“It is unimaginable what opportunities [ruling party founder Bidzina] Ivanishvili is making us lose,” she said, adding that Georgia has rarely experienced such a sense of “helplessness and weakness.”
The opposition leader criticised the ruling authorities for frequently speaking about peace while, according to her, failing to participate in major regional initiatives. Bokuchava referred to ongoing geopolitical and economic projects linking Central Asia with Western markets through the Black Sea region, bypassing Russia and Iran.
She argued that the United States is becoming the dominant strategic actor in the region and claimed Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic ambitions are no longer receiving the same international attention as before.
