The chairperson of the United National Movement (UNM), Tina Bokuchava, said that a recent visit by European Parliamentarians aimed to show support for the Georgian people in their fight for European values.

Speaking after the meeting, Bokuchava highlighted that the discussions also focused on the need to impose sanctions on Bidzina Ivanishvili and his inner circle, while ensuring that ordinary Georgian citizens retain visa-free travel to the European Union.

“First and foremost, the visit serves to express support for the Georgian people who are fighting for European values. We also discussed the necessity of imposing sanctions on Ivanishvili and his entourage. I have been personally very active in ensuring that Georgian citizens are not punished for Ivanishvili’s authoritarian steps and that visa-free travel is not revoked indiscriminately,” Bokuchava said.

She stressed that the sanctions should target Ivanishvili, his associates, propagandists, financial elites, perpetrators, false witnesses, and certain judges, rather than the general population.

“Our work in this direction has been very productive, there is progress, and I hope that this mechanism will be implemented soon,” Bokuchava added.
