Tina Bokuchava, chair of the opposition United National Movement (UNM), has met with James McClure, a member of the UK delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), her party announced on Wednesday.
The UNM said McClure is known in the British House of Commons for his active stance on Georgia, where he had “repeatedly advocated” stronger support for Georgian democracy, including the imposition of UK sanctions on Bidzina Ivanishvili, the founder and honorary chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party, and members of his ruling circle.
The two discussed the emergency debate scheduled for tomorrow at PACE, the subsequent resolution to be adopted, and the need for Britain to maintain sanctions pressure on Georgia’s leadership, the party added.
