August 18 is the birthday of the national hero of Georgia, Giorgi Antsukhelidze.

 

He would have turned 37 today. The comrades remembered Giorgi Antsukhelidze once again and laid a wreath at the memorial in his native village Kvemo Alvani. Father Gabriel Bakradze, the head of the 4th Mechanized Brigade of the Georgian Defense Forces, paid his last respects to Giorgi Antsukhelidze. Representatives of the Giorgi Antsukhelidze Sergeant Academy also honored the memory of the national hero.

 

The military servicemen laid flowers at the grave of the Georgian national hero at the Mukhatgverdi Brothers Cemetery and recalled the history of his heroism. Giorgi Antsukhelidze’s family members were present at the Mukhatgverdi Brothers Cemetery. Georgian National Hero, Giorgi Antsukhelidze was born on August 18, 1984 in the village of Kvemo Alvani, Akhmeta district. Junior Sergeant Giorgi Antsukhelidze, a serviceman of the 41st Battalion of the 4th Infantry Brigade, participated in the 2008 Russia-Georgia war.

 

On August 9, he was captured by an opponent and beaten to death after being tortured. On April 15, 2013, he was awarded the title of National Hero of Georgia. Giorgi Antsukhelidze was awarded with the Order of Vakhtang Gorgasali I degree and the departmental medal “Dedicated to the Motherland”. It is named after the Sergeant Academy.
