Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has dismissed Andrii Yermak, the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine and one of his closest allies, following a major corruption scandal that prompted a search of Yermak’s apartment by anti-corruption investigators.
Zelenskyy announced Yermak’s resignation in his evening address, stating that the leadership overhaul was necessary to ensure full trust in Ukraine’s institutions.
“I want no one to have any questions for Ukraine. Therefore, today the following internal decisions are made. First, the Office of the President of Ukraine will be rebooted. [...] Yermak has submitted his resignation,” Zelenskyy said, adding that consultations on a replacement would be held on Saturday.
The dismissal follows an early-morning search conducted by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU). Investigators raided Yermak’s apartment as part of an ongoing probe into what NABU described as a “high-level criminal organisation” operating within Ukraine’s energy sector. Businessman Timur Mindich was identified as the alleged leader of the scheme.
Yermak said he had fully cooperated with the investigation and granted unrestricted access to his residence. He has not publicly commented on his resignation.
