Traffic will be completely restricted on the Freedom Square, Rustaveli Avenue and First Republic Square in central Tbilisi starting from 12 p.m. Tuesday, due to celebrations scheduled for the country’s Independence Day on May 26.

The Georgian Interior Ministry said the restriction would be in effect until the decorations intended for the Independence Day events are removed.

Drivers will have to take Baratashvili and Tabukashvili streets towards Kostava and Sanapiro streets, while Asatiani Street will lead the traffic between Mtatsminda and Gorgasali Square.

Drivers heading to Mtatsminda will be diverted to Melikishvili Street via Janashia, Tarkhnishvili and Chovelidze streets, as well as onto Chonkadze Street, while the traffic from Chavchavadze Avenue will move through Melikishvili and Kostava streets, and on the Mtkvari River bank.

Georgia’s Independence Day on May 26 commemorates the adoption of the Independence Act in 1918 that established the First Democratic Republic of Georgia in the aftermath of the Russian Revolution of 1917.
