US President Donald Trump on Thursday said the United States currently has “very good relations” with Iran and expressed optimism about ongoing efforts to reach a nuclear-related agreement.

“We are making a deal with Iran, and it will be a good deal, a deal without nuclear weapons. We have a very strong statement that for more than 20 years they will not have nuclear weapons,” Trump said.

“If this happens, oil prices will go down significantly, prices will go down significantly, inflation will go down significantly,” he said.

Trump also noted that, despite longstanding tensions, Washington’s current relationship with Tehran is positive.

“Right now we have very good relations with Iran, which is hard to believe,” he said.
