US President Donald Trump on Sunday said Washington would assist Poland in its defence if Russia decides to escalate tensions.

Speaking to reporters, Trump was asked whether the US would protect Poland and the Baltic states - Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia - if Russian President Vladimir Putin continued escalation.

“I will do that,” Trump replied.

Commenting on the recent violation of Estonian airspace by Russian fighter jets, Trump added: “We don’t like that”.

On the night of September 9–10, around 20 Russian drones entered Polish airspace during an attack on Ukraine. More recently, on September 19, three Russian MiG-31 fighter jets crossed into Estonian airspace, remaining there for at least 12 minutes. Estonia described the incident as a deliberate provocation.
