US delegation heads to Russia for ceasefire talks with Ukraine

A delegation from US President Donald Trump is traveling to Russia to negotiate a 30-day ceasefire with Ukraine, according to The Guardian, BBC News, and US Vice President JD Vance.

President Trump confirmed that he had received “positive messages” regarding the possibility of a ceasefire but cautioned against premature optimism.

“A positive message means nothing. This is a very serious situation,” Trump stated.

The US President emphasized that the success of the talks now depends on Russia’s response.

“We have people going to Russia right now… Hopefully, we can get a ceasefire from Russia. If we do, I think that would be 80% of the way to getting this horrible bloodbath to end,” he added.

Meanwhile, Vice President Vance expressed confidence in the US’s position following Ukraine’s agreement to the proposed ceasefire.

“We’re now going to see whether we can get the Russians to agree to a ceasefire too,” Vance said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously outlined potential first steps toward peace, suggesting a ceasefire in the air and at sea.

On March 11, during a meeting in Saudi Arabia, the US proposed a ceasefire across all territories, which Ukraine accepted.

Now, the international community awaits Russia’s response. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken had stated that the US would reach out to Moscow for discussions on March 12.

The success of these negotiations could mark a significant turning point in the conflict, but much depends on Russia’s willingness to engage.
