US President Donald Trump on Sunday said American forces had rescued a second crew member from a downed F-15E aircraft during what he described as a “highly daring” search and rescue mission.

Trump added the officer had been found injured but was now “safe and in good health”.

“We found him,” he said, adding that the operation was “one of the most courageous search and rescue missions in American history”.

The President said dozens of aircraft were involved in the mission, while senior military officials monitored the situation for 24 hours.

Trump also said a first crew member from the same aircraft had been rescued the previous day, but that information had not been made public at the time to avoid jeopardising the second operation.

He added that both rescues had been carried out deep inside hostile territory without any American casualties, describing it as evidence of US “full dominance and air superiority” over Iran.
