US President Donald Trump has reignited discussions about acquiring Greenland following his re-election, insisting that US control over the Arctic island is essential for national security.

In an interview with NBC News on Saturday, Trump refused to rule out the use of military force to annex the Danish-controlled territory. When asked about the possibility of acquiring Greenland, he responded confidently: “We’ll get Greenland. Yeah, 100%.”

Greenland, a semi-autonomous territory of Denmark, has firmly rejected any US annexation efforts. Protests against Trump’s policies have taken place on the island, and the Danish government has also dismissed the idea of selling Greenland.

Recently, US Vice President J.D. Vance visited Greenland with his wife, reaffirming America’s strategic interest in the region. During the visit, Vance stated that while the US is not yet increasing its military presence in Greenland, it remains focused on ensuring the island’s security.

Denmark has responded with caution, urging the US to adopt a more diplomatic approach. The Danish Foreign Minister reminded Washington that Greenland is part of NATO and emphasized the importance of joint efforts to maintain Arctic security.
