Russia has agreed to a limited energy and infrastructure ceasefire in Ukraine as part of a US-led initiative to end the ongoing war, the White House announced following a phone call between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

According to the White House statement, the two leaders agreed to launch “technical negotiations” on a maritime ceasefire in the Black Sea, as well as discussions toward achieving a full ceasefire and permanent peace. These negotiations are set to begin immediately in the Middle East.

Trump and Putin also emphasized the potential benefits of improving US-Russia relations, highlighting “enormous economic deals and geopolitical stability” as key incentives.

The statement further noted that both leaders believe the war should have ended long ago and that the resources spent on the conflict would be better used to serve their respective nations. In addition to Ukraine, they discussed broader security concerns, including efforts to prevent the proliferation of strategic weapons and ensuring that Iran is never in a position to threaten Israel.
