US President Donald Trump has said that, following the end of the conflict with Iran, Washington is now focusing on efforts to achieve peace between Ukraine and Russia.
Speaking during a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, Trump said he had held “very good” phone conversations on 14 June with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“I think we may be able to do something about it. We really can. I think both of them are open to it. Now that this [Iran war] is over, we will focus on this and see if we can bring it to an end,” Trump said.
He added that around “25,000 people” were dying every month in Russia’s war against Ukraine, mostly soldiers, calling it something that “should not happen.”
