US President Donald Trump has claimed that his policies played a decisive role in NATO’s survival, arguing that the alliance would no longer exist had he not intervened.

Trump said that no other president or private individual has done more for NATO than he has, insisting that his actions were crucial in preventing the alliance from collapsing.

“No person and no president has done more for NATO than President Donald Trump. If I had not come along, NATO would not exist at all right now. It would have ended up on the scrap heap of history. It is sad, but it is true,” Trump said.

The remarks reflect Trump’s long-standing criticism of NATO members over defence spending and burden-sharing, an issue he has repeatedly raised throughout his presidency.
