US President Donald Trump has said that Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to his request not to carry out strikes on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities for one week.

“I personally asked Putin not to strike Kyiv and other cities for a week while the severe cold persists, and he agreed,” Trump said.

The US President added that he remains confident a resolution to the conflict in Ukraine is possible.

Meanwhile, the Financial Times recently reported that Ukraine and the United States are preparing to propose an energy truce to Russia during the next round of peace talks in Abu Dhabi. According to the report, the proposal would involve Moscow halting attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, while Kyiv would stop strikes on Russian oil refineries and tankers linked to the so-called “shadow fleet”.
