US President Donald Trump on Monday pledged Ukraine would receive “very good protection” and strong security guarantees.

Speaking at the White House during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Trump said the issue of Ukraine’s security guarantees has not yet been fully discussed but noted allies were committed to providing robust support.

“We'll give them [Ukraine] very good protection, very good security”, he said.

Trump also reiterated that Russian President Vladimir Putin does not want Ukraine to join NATO.

The US President also stated: “Right now, there are people waiting for us in another room. They are all from Europe – the most influential people in Europe – and they want to ensure protection. They are very concerned about this issue, and we will help them with it”.

The White House meeting included top European officials, who are reportedly focused on ensuring Ukraine’s security and supporting the country amid ongoing Russian attacks.
