US President Donald Trump has said he would not rule out a visit to Russia this year.

Speaking to a reporter from TASS, Trump was asked whether he could travel to Russia in 2026.

“I will do whatever is necessary. This war — I have resolved eight wars, and this one is nearing its end. Believe it or not, it is getting closer and we think we will ultimately reach an agreement between Russia and Ukraine,” Trump said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin had previously invited Trump to visit Moscow during telephone conversations.

On 11 May, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said the invitation remained open and that Putin would “always be pleased to meet his American counterpart in Moscow”.

Peskov added that Putin extends the invitation to Trump during every phone call between the two leaders.
