South Korea has called on US President Donald Trump to mediate dialogue with North Korea and help ease military tensions in the region.

According to reports, South Korean President Lee Jae Myung requested Trump’s involvement to bring North Korea’s Kim Jong Un back to the negotiating table. South Korea’s Foreign Minister Cho Hyun said Trump had accepted the proposal and “expressed readiness to re-engage with North Korea,” though the White House has not yet issued an official statement.

Trump, who in his January inauguration speech pledged to leave behind a “legacy of peacemaking,” has repeatedly claimed credit for stopping “six wars” and has also expressed his ambition to help end Russia’s war against Ukraine.
