In a striking statement, US President-elect Donald Trump suggested he might use military or economic force to secure control over Greenland and the Panama Canal, describing them as vital to America’s economic security. Speaking to reporters, Trump declined to rule out such measures when asked about his intentions for these strategic territories.

“No. I can’t say for sure which one, but I can say this: We need them for economic security,” Trump stated, underscoring his view of their importance.

When pressed on his approach toward Canada, Trump dismissed the possibility of military action, opting instead for economic leverage. He previously stirred debate by suggesting on social media that many Canadians might support becoming the 51st state of the United States.

“If Canada joined the US, there would be no tariffs, taxes would be significantly reduced, and they would be completely safe from the threat of Russian and Chinese ships that are constantly around. What a great nation they would be together!!!” Trump wrote.
