President-elect Donald Trump is expected to soon appoint a special envoy to lead peace negotiations aimed at ending the war between Russia and Ukraine, multiple sources informed Fox News. According to a source, the envoy will be a “very senior” figure with considerable credibility, tasked with achieving a peace settlement as a high priority of the incoming administration.

Ukrainska Pravda reports that Trump is considering Brian Hook, a seasoned diplomat with experience in Republican administrations under George W. Bush and Donald Trump. Hook, 56, has a background in Iran policy, where he played a prominent role in coordinating sanctions and served as a senior advisor to then-Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. Although he is known for his firm stance on Iran, Hook has no direct experience with Ukraine and may also play a role in overseeing the State Department transition.

In pursuit of Trump’s goal for a “swift end” to the war, the team has reportedly suggested measures such as freezing the front lines, establishing a demilitarized zone, and imposing a 20-year moratorium on NATO expansion. However, the full extent of the appointed envoy’s authority remains unspecified.
