The proposal would allow the US to avoid direct transfers to Ukraine while still enabling military support

US President Donald Trump is reportedly planning to sell American weapons to NATO allies under the condition that they subsequently transfer them to Ukraine, according to Axios.

Under the proposed arrangement, NATO would fully finance the weapons purchases from the United States, with the alliance then responsible for delivering them to Ukraine. Speaking to the media, President Trump explained:

“NATO finances these weapons 100%. What we do is that we send weapons to NATO, and then NATO transfers these weapons to Ukraine. The alliance will reimburse the full cost of these weapons. We send the Patriots to NATO, then NATO distributes them.”

The proposal would allow the US to avoid direct transfers to Ukraine while still enabling military support, aligning with Trump’s long-standing calls for greater burden-sharing among NATO members.
