US Rep. Jamie Ruskin on Thursday sent a letter to 45th President Donald Trump's lawyer asking him to testify in the impeachment case. However, Trump refused.

Writes about this CNN.

The impeachment process begins on Tuesday 9 February. Raskin claims Trump's testimony is needed after he challenged House claims that he instigated the Capitol uprising.

Trump's lawyers quickly responded to Ruskin's request by writing a three-paragraph letter saying the request is a sign that the House of Representatives cannot prove its charges against Trump.

"The use of our Constitution to initiate an impeachment case is too serious to try to play these games," – the lawyers said in a letter.

Trump adviser Jason Miller also confirmed that the former president had turned down the request.

"The president will not testify during an unconstitutional trial," – he said.
