CEC: Review of October 26 election complaints concluded

The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Georgia has completed reviewing complaints filed with district election commissions regarding the October 26 elections. According to Giorgi Santuriani, head of the CEC’s Legal Department, 290 precinct election commission members were imposed with disciplinary measures and results from 12 mobile ballot boxes were annulled.

Santuriani noted that the election dispute review process is now almost complete across both the election administration and the general courts. He reported that in total, 1,201 complaints were filed on election day, with 537 seeking to invalidate or recount precinct results and 466 calling for disciplinary action against commission members.

“Out of the submitted complaints, 167 were partially satisfied or partially satisfied. 917 were not satisfied, 107 complaints remained unconsidered, which is 8.9% of the total submitted complaints,” Santuriani stated.

He noted that additionally, 10 remaining cases—unrelated to vote counts but concerning administrative violations—are still under review, with decisions expected within 10 days.

Santuriani emphasized that the CEC also acted on its own initiative to annul results from 12 mobile ballot boxes and recount results from 12 precincts, where complaints were also filed.

“Separately, 114 complaints were submitted on possible violations related to campaigning and misuse of administrative resources, mainly involving social media agitation. Following reviews, 12 administrative violation protocols were drafted and forwarded to the courts,” he added.

Santuriani remarked that with these reviews, the election dispute process has effectively concluded within both the CEC and general courts.
