The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Georgia has formally requested that the Prosecutor’s Office initiate an investigation into recent allegations made by President Salome Zourabichvili and various opposition figures regarding possible election fraud. The CEC argues that these statements are baseless and are damaging the institution’s reputation.

According to the CEC, following the announcement of the 2024 parliamentary election results, it has faced intense and unfounded criticism, despite positive assessments from international observers, including OSCE/ODIHR, and an audit by an American firm that found no irregularities in the CEC’s processes. The CEC emphasized that election-related complaints are currently under review, but the allegations of “alleged fraud” from certain political figures have escalated significantly.

“To determine whether claims made by the President, politicians, or other interested parties regarding election fraud are credible, a complex and objective investigation is required, which falls outside the CEC’s authority,” the CEC statement reads. “Therefore, we call upon the Prosecutor’s Office to investigate these statements thoroughly. The CEC is prepared to fully cooperate and provide any necessary information to assist in the investigation.”
