Chair of the Supreme Council of Adjara, Tsotne Ananidze, has responded to opposition statements regarding a crime allegedly committed by law enforcement officers in 2022.

In a post on social media, Ananidze said one of the fundamental principles of law is that no person should be punished twice for the same offence.

“One of the fundamental principles of justice is: ‘No one should be punished twice for the same crime.’ The opposition is demanding that police officers who have already been detained in connection with the case be detained again over the same matter,” Ananidze wrote.
