MP Tsotne Ananidze argued that blaming Georgia’s prime minister for the pause in the country’s EU accession path amounted to an attempt to force a change of government

A member of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara from the ruling Georgian Dream party has claimed that the European Union’s stated decision not to enlarge before 2030, combined with the impact of the war in Ukraine, was the reason Georgia’s EU integration process has been halted.

In a social media post, MP Tsotne Ananidze argued that blaming Georgia’s prime minister for the pause in the country’s EU accession path amounted to an attempt to force a change of government.

“The EU has clearly announced that no enlargement is planned before 2030. At the same time, because of the war in Ukraine, they themselves have suspended the process with Georgia,” Ananidze wrote. “Accusing the Georgian prime minister of halting the process is an attempt to change the government.”
