Member of the Supreme Council of Adjara from the ruling Georgian Dream party, Tsotne Ananidze, on Saturday said in a social media post that calls for a ceasefire in Ukraine were criticised as “pro-Russian” only when voiced by ruling Georgian Dream representatives, while similar statements from Western leaders or Ukrainian officials were considered acceptable by Government critics.

Ananidze said opposition groups refused to engage with the substance of such statements and instead rejected them solely because they come from members of the ruling party.

“When we mention the need for a ceasefire in Ukraine (to save lives), radicals label it pro-Russian. But when the same is said by America, Europe or [Ukrainian President Volodymyr] Zelenskyy — it is completely normal for them,” Ananidze wrote.

“This once again shows that radicals do not examine or comprehend the content. For them, the only important thing is not to agree with a Georgian Dream member — even if it concerns something as obvious as the Earth being round.”
