Chairman of the Supreme Council of Adjara Tsotne Ananidze has defended the ruling Georgian Dream party against criticism that it has become a "party of power".
Responding to remarks by political analyst Viktor Kipiani, who said Georgian Dream had evolved into a party primarily focused on retaining power, Ananidze argued that seeking and exercising political power is a fundamental purpose of any political party.
"The essence of a political party is to compete for power and to exercise it," Ananidze wrote on social media on Tuesday.
He added that Kipiani's assessment should be viewed not as criticism, but as recognition of Georgian Dream's organisational strength and political influence.
